Eighth stage of Super Fighter puts 400 boxers in the ring in Bandarawela

The eighth stage of Super Fighter sports reality show kicked off in Bandarawela Municipal Council  Grounds. The the main highlight of Saturday’s programme was the participation of indigenous youth in the area.

Super Fighter, a sports reality TV programme that promises a novel experience for the Sri Lankan television audience is a joint initiative of the MTV and MBC Media Network and MAS Holdings.

The main aim of the 8th phase of Super Fighter is to select talented boxers from the Badulla and Nuwara Eliya districts. Over 400 aspiring boxers took part in Saturday’s programme.

Mayor of Banadarawela  Municipal Council, Chaminda Wijeysiri said: “We are very glad that you all are granting us the strength and assistance to pave way to create an athlete who will hopefully  participate and win in 2020 Olympics.”

A training camp will be held on Sunday parallel to the trials for aspiring boxers to participate in the programme. A training camp was also held in order to train athletes with regard to the basics of  boxing.

The training camp was held under four weight categories with the use of a ring constructed to international standards.
