Afghanistan and SL sign several agreements; seeks Lankan cricket coaches

President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai held bilateral discussions at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo on Thursday morning.

President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai was welcomed at the Presidential Secretariat and a Military Guard of Honour was accorded to the visiting Afghan President. Sri Lanka and Afghanistan reached several agreements today.

The Presidential Spokesperson and International Media Unit said that agreements were signed on co-operation in areas of human resources, sports, education and health.

Education was an area that the two delegations discussed,  for further cooperation.

Afghanistan requested an opportunity from Sri Lanka to send students to study at Sri Lankan universities in fields such as medicine, engineering, business and nursing.

Another area that Afghanistan was keen on seeking Sri Lanka’s assistance was in the field of sports. The Afghans were particularly  seeking the assistance of cricket coaches from Sri Lanka .
