Journalist

Question:  “It has been proposed by the UN Human Rights Commission that Sri Lanka should be investigated.”

Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Development, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne

Reply:   “No. They can propose it. The government can reject it.”

Journalist

Question:  “It is being said that with the resolution in Geneva there could be economic sanctions.”

Rajitha Senaratne

Reply:  “To impose economic sanctions they must go to the Security Council. Russia and China have veto power in the Security Council. They have said clearly that they will stand for Sri Lanka at any instance. Thereby, imposing sanctions via the United Nations is a difficult task.”
