Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya on Wednesday granted permission for IT specialists to inspect the bank accounts held under the name of the former Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake.

The ruling was made following considerations to a request made by the lawyer representing Dr. Bandaranayake.

Accordingly, the notification was released on Wednesday, in line with the case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption. The Bribery Commission informed court that they would provide computerised evidence of Dr. Bandaranyake’s bank account

Court granted the defence a period of 45 days to submit their objections, following a motion filed by the defence.

The magistrate ordered that a team including two software and hardware experts, lawyers and an auditor should engage in carrying out this investigation.  The case will be taken up again on May 19.
