Four more suspects arrested in Mirihana pawning center theft

The Mirihana Special Crimes Unit has arrested four more suspects in connection with the theft of cash and jewellery worth Rs. 15 million from a pawning centre in Padukka.

The robbery took place at the centre located in the Padukka town on Feb. 12.

News 1st obtained CCTV footage of the robbery being committed from security cameras which had been affixed at the pawning centre, and highlighted the suspects for easier identification.

The police say that two soldiers are among the four individuals arrested Saturday.

The police have seized two motorcycles used by the thieves and have also seized 1,870 grammes of gold stolen by them.

Meanwhile, another suspect was arrested Saturday in connection with the theft of Rs. 15 million in cash and jewellery by armed robbers from a jewellery shop in Negombo on Feb. 17.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that the suspect arrested was one of the two armed thieves that carried out the robbery.

Four suspects, including UNP Provincial Council Candidate Royce Fernando, have been arrested in connection with this theft thus far.
