Plans are underway to declare open the first stage of the Colombo Outer Circular Highway on March 8.

It is also expected to allow vehicles into the highway from Kaduwela to Galle from the day of opening.

The total cost of construction has been estimated at Rs27 billion.  A twelve kilometre distance of the highway from Kaduwela to Kottawa is constructed under the aid from Japan.

The portion of the roadway spanning nearly nine kilometers from Kaduwela to Kadawatha is expected to be handed over to public by next year under the second stage of construction.

The final stage of the construction of 9.2 kilometres will be from Kadawatha to Kerawalapitiya.
