The Ministry of Education has decided to launch an organised approach to safeguard the student.
Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that accordingly organisations will be established in schools with the participation of principals, teachers-in-charge of counseling, religious leaders in the area, past pupils, prefects, parents and area residents in this regard.
The minister expressed his belief that proper solutions can be given to such issues that arise from students using social media websites such as Facebook.
In addition the minister said that it has been planned to provide recommendations and advice through this move in order to prevent students being subjected to sexual harassment both inside and outside school and to control violence that take place against children.
The minister said these organisations will be established before the end of the current school term.
