A draft bill which will allow cigarette cartons to contain pictorial warning is due to be taken up for debate in Parliament on Wednesday.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Nihal Jayathilake says that these regulations will be passed on Wednesday.
He added that the aim of this clause is to control smoking,
“According to the Tobacco and Alcohol Act, regulations are needed to approve a clause to allow pictorial warning on cigarette cartons. The Parliament is due to approve the regulations on Wednesday. This is done according to the Tobacco and Alcohol Act in order to take special measures to discourage smoking.”
