Important that SL govt. resumes substantive dialogue with the TNA – Sujatha Singh

Newsfirst’s special correspondent Nadim Majeed attended a meeting with Indian Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi on Thursday.

Speaking to the delegation of journalists, Singh highlighted several issues pertaining to Sri Lanka and renewed India’s call for the implementation of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution and beyond.

Sujatha Singh said: “We are all aware that the situation is an evolving one, and I would like to say that we are aware that Sri Lanka has made conscious efforts, to pursue a lasting political settlement within the framework of a unified Sri Lanka acceptable to all communities in Sri Lanka, including Tamils. India is committed to the unity, sovereignty, integrity and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka. ”

She also stated: “It is important in this context that the government of Sri Lanka resumes a substantive dialogue with the TNA for a political settlement and reconciliation. India has consistently urged the government of Sri Lanka to take forward the process of broader dialogue so that we can see some concrete progress towards a meaningful devolution of powers, including, implementation of the 13th Amendment and beyond.”
