The government has decided to give a guaranteed price for potatoes, big onions and dry chillies.
Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said that the programme will be introduced through Sathosa in the future.
The government took steps to implement the programme inline with the 2014 budget proposal.
Thereby, a kilo of potatoes, big onions and dry chillies. could be purchased for Rs.80, Rs. 60 and Rs.350 respectively.
Meanwhile, cultivators could purchase a kilogramme of potato seeds for Rs.160 while a kilogramme of big onion seeds could be purchased for Rs.12,000.
The objective of introducing guaranteed prices is to promote the local market and to provide a reasonable price for the cultivation of agricultural goods.
