This year’s Indian Premier League may be played outside the country. The T20 tournament is set to clash with the general elections and the BCCI is likely to take most of the games to South Africa. Earlier, it was reported that Sri Lanka was an option for the eight-week championship in April-May.

BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel has indicated in Bangalore on Thursday that South Africa is the preferred venue. The Rainbow Nation had hosted the IPL’s second edition in 2009. South Africa have also hosted the T20 Champions League. BCCI officials will meet Home ministry officials in the next 10 days and arrive at a decision.
