A meeting between the Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya and the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission is scheduled to be held. The meeting will cover the topic of free and fair elections ahead of the upcoming provincial council polls.
News1st contacted Dr. Prathiba Mahanamahewa, commmissioner of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission.
“The chairman and the commissioners of the SLHRC have extended an invitation to hold a meeting mainly to discuss with possible difficulties we might encounter for the upcoming PC polls. A meeting will be held Thursday afternoon at the SLHRC with the elections commissioner and deputy elections commissioner. Other points they will be tabled at this meeting are the fact that voting is a human right and the situation with relation to the breaching of election laws, along with the inspection of polling stations.”
