Environment Ministry moving full steam ahead to control forest fires

The Ministry of Environment notes that a special plan has been put in place to control forest fires. Secretary to the Ministry B.M.U.D. Basnayake notes that this programme will be carried out with the assistance of communities living in close proximity to the forests.

Meanwhile,  the Disaster Management Centre notes that many forest areas and wet lands have been destroyed due to forest fires.

Assistant Director of the Centre, Pradeep Kodippili notes that extensive damage was caused due to the the forest fires that broke out recently. Meanwhile,  the police notes that stern legal action will be taken against arsonists who start such fires.
