The accepting of nominations for the Western and Southern provincial council elections will end at noon on Thursday.
Additional Elections Commissioner R.M.A.L Ratnayake said that issues can be mitigated if nominations are submitted early.
He added that recognized political parties and 55 independent groups had already submitted nominations on Friday.
The Additional Elections Commissioner also noted that a specific time period to file objections will not be granted.
In addition, the placing of deposits for the Western and Southern provincial council elections concluded at noon on Wednesday.
Accordingly, Ratnayake said that 49 independent parties have placed deposits.
Meanwhile, seventeen schools in the Western Province will be closed on Thursday due to the accepting of nominations for the upcoming provincial council elections.
P.N. Ailapperuma, Western Province education director, said that 13 schools in Gampaha and four schools in Kalutara will be closed on Thursday.
He added, that the aim of the decision is to minimize the inconvenience faced by children due to the traffic congestion that might occur following the submission of nominations.
Meanwhile, the provincial educational directors office says that 25 schools in the Southern Province will be closed at 10:30 a.m. Thursday due to the submission of nominations.
Southern Province Education Director, Jayatissa Block said that 15 schools in Galle and 10 schools in Matara will be closed.
