The Special Commodities Levy on imported potatoes has been increased by Rs.15 per kilogramme effective midnight Thursday.
The special commodities levy on imported potatoes will thus increase from Rs.10 per kilogramme to Rs.25 per kilogramme. The decision is expected to cause an increase in the price of potatoes. In a communique announcing the amendment to the levy, the Ministry of Finance and Planning says that this decision was taken in order to protect local farmers.
