Candidates contesting upcoming PC polls commence their campaign

Popular actress Nadeesha Hemamali met with campaigners onThursday after submitting her nominations to contest the upcoming Southern Provincial Council Poll from the Matara district.

After submitting their nominations, candidates contesting for the upcoming Western and Southern Provincial Council Polls commenced their campaigns in earnest, after religious observances.

Senior Journalist S.M. Marikkar handed in his nomination on Thursday for the Colombo District under the UNP ticket.

Prior to submitting his nominations, S.M. Marikkar met with members of the Maha Sangha led by the Adviser of the United National Bhikkhu Front, Ven. Girambe Ananda Thera.

Subsequently he visited multi-faith places of worship and obtained blessings.

An Old Boy of Rahula College, Matara, following his higher education, S.M. Marikkar was employed at the Capital Maharaja Organisation Limited. He served as the Channel Head of Sirasa FM.

While in this position, he undertook numerous religious, cultural and community welfare programmes and rendered a yeoman service.

Meanwhile, Hirunika Premachandra who will be contesting for the Western Provincial Council poll from the Colombo district under the UPFA ticket, commenced her campaigning with vigour today, following religious observances.

A large group including ministers and MPs were present at the occasion.

Pasanda Yapa Abeywardena, who will be contesting for the Southern Provincial Council from the UPFA ticket, engaged in religious observances at the Matara Bodhiya on Thursday after submitting his nomination.

A group including Minister of Investment Promotion, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, also participated at this occasion. Subsequently, the group arrived in the Matara town in procession.

Rohana Abeygunwardena, who is contesting for the Western Provincial Council from the UPFA ticket, also engaged in religious observances on Thursday after handing in his nomination.

 Religious observances were held at the Kalutara Bodhiya.

 Senior Journalist Susil Kindelpitiya too engaged in religious observances onThursday, after submitting his nomination.

Kindelpitiya attended religious observances at the Dawatagaha Mosque and obtained blessings. He also visited the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya and met with the Chief Incumbent of the Viharaya.
