According to the Australian Ministry of Immigration and Border Protection, the Australian government successfully repatriated 45 Sri Lankan nationals who arrived in Australia illegally.
According to Scott Morrison the Australian Minister of Immigration and Border Protection, eight detainees chose to return voluntarily. Morrison emphasised that any one who arrives in Australia by boat illegally will either be sent to Papua New Guinea, Nauru or sent home.
He adds that the Australian government does not deal in half measures and has the policies and resolve to fight people smugglers and stop illegal boat arrivals.
A release issued by the Australian Minister of Immigration and Border Protection notes that voluntary returnees may be helped to resume their lives in Sri Lanka through the granting of a reintegration.
