Ten injured in Clacton explosion

Ten people have been injured and nearby residents evacuated following an explosion in a residential street in Essex. England.

A man, believed to be in his 70s, was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries while a woman, thought to be in her 50s, was being treated for severe burns.

A further eight casualties, some suffering burns and broken limbs, were taken to hospital, according to Essex Fire and Rescue Service.

It is thought the explosion may have been caused by a gas leak and gas safely officials are conducting an investigation at the scene. However, the exact cause of the explosion is still to be determined.
