Building material were donated to the Udayala Primary School in Ranna, Tangalle on Tuesday under the auspices of UNP Parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa.
Speaking at the event, Sajith Premadasa said: “Minister C.W.W. Kannangara established free education, in order to provide an independent and free education service. But on this day when we celebrate the 66th anniversary of our independence, I do not see any free education. An era where our duty by the right is not being done has dawned on us.”
He added; “Why do I say this? Although today is Independence Day, even though I am saddened to say it, I must say that there is freedom for lawlessness. There is freedom to abuse. There is freedom for corruption, fraud and thievery. There is freedom for drug trafficking. There is freedom to smuggle ethanol. There is freedom for arrack and moonshine politics. But there is no free education where classrooms are built for our children.”
At the evennt, the MP donated building material valued at about Rs.130000 to the school.
