Police Media Spokesperson, SSP Ajith Rohana said that the police recorded a statement from UNP parliamentarian, Mangala Samaraweera following a complaint lodged with the Police Headquarters by a youth from the Ratmalana area.
This youth was arrested on December 31 on charges that he entered the residence of Mangala Samarawera and stole several goods. After he was released, the youth in question lodged a complaint against Mangala Samaraweera at the Police Headquarters stating that he was arrested on false allegations.
The Police Media Spokesperson expressed the following views at a media briefing held on Sunday in this regard:
“We carried out investigations on this incident. At the same time the Panadura North Police recorded a statement from Mangala Samarweera on Friday. During which, statements were recorded on issues put forward by the suspect in question. We are hoping to forward information from the statement in courts. We are holding investigations to ascertain whether the suspect in question actually stole the foreign liquor and a laptop as said in the complaint or whether they were false allegations that were made based on a disagreement between the parties concerned.”
