Infant found abandoned in Borella

An infant was abandoned opposite a house located in close proximity to the Sangamittha Girls’ School in Borella. An individual who had been on an adjacent building claimed to have witnessed the incident.

The eyewitness said: “They were going to leave the child under the traffic lights. There were two people, the man went forward with the baby. He returned soon after, gathered their bag and left.”

The infant is receiving treatment at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital in Colombo Doctors note that the infant had been abandoned several hours after it was born.

The child is currently receiving treatment at the neo natal birth unit of the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital.

A similar incident was reported recently where a newborn infant was abandoned in a garbage dump.Meanwhile, the remains of an infant was discovered in the Gunasinhapura garbage dump.
