Doctors in the Polonnaruwa District have launched a token strike.
Co-ordinator of the Polonnaruwa District Branch of the Government Medical Officers’ Association, Dr. Sanjeewa Amarasinghe said the strike was launched to demand that inquiries made into disciplinary actions of the Former Administrative Public Health Inspector in Hingurakgoda, be made more vigorous.
He added that all doctors at public hospitals in the Polonnaruwa District are participating in the strike. Dr. Amarasinghe however, noted that essential services at hospitals are functioning.
We made inquiries from the North Central Province Minister of Health, H.B. Semasinghe regarding the issue. He noted that an inquiry is already underway into the official against whom allegations have been levelled.
