Six persons have been arrested over an assault on a police constable in the Kavanthissapura area in Embilipitiya. Police said that investigations are underway to arrest two more individuals connected to the incident.

The police constable who was attached to the Police Kennel Division of the  Embilipitiya Police was assaulted by an unidentified group on Friday evening at around 6 p.m. while he was returning home in his motorcycle.

Police said that the officer who was injured is currently receiving treatment at the  Embilipitiya Hospital and that investigations into the incident are currently underway
