The Sri Lankan cricket squad left the country for their upcoming series against Bangladesh early Friday morning. The fifteen-member squad will be led by Angelo Mathews while Dinesh Chandimal will be his deputy.
Kithruwan Vithanage has been brought in for Lahiru Thirimanne who was left out for the recently concluded test series against Pakistan due to a foot injury.
Nuwan Kulasekera who was also left out in that series due to injury has not been named in the squad for the tour of Bangladesh.
Speaking of the recruiting of spinner Ajantha Mendis, Captain of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team, Angelo Mathews said,
“We called Ajantha Mendis back into the squad because we need a variation in our spin attack. I believe that Ajantha Mendis is an important player along with our other spinners Dilruwan Perera and Rangana Herath. And we feel that Mendis has a good opportunity to perform in Bangladesh.”
The first test will be played on January 27 in Dhaka. Sri Lanka’s tour of Bangladesh includes two match test series, three match ODI series and two T20s.
