The owner of the Kosgoda Turtle Sanctuary and an employee of the sanctuary were granted bail on Thursday after being produced in courts for the disappearance of the Albino Turtle from the sanctuary.
The bail was granted on Thursday by the Chief Magistrate of Balapitiya, Asanga Bodaragama.The suspects were arrested for allegedly making a false complaint regarding the missing Albino Turtle and over charges of animal cruelty. Accordingly, the suspects were released on a surety bail of Rs.500,000 and a cash bail of Rs.15,000 each.
The Chief Magistrate also ordered that the four albino turtles be handed over to the National Zoological Gardens in Dehiwala. The Magistrate also ordered the suspects’ passports to be impounded.
