A hunger strike commenced on Monday morning, demanding clean drinking water for the people of Rathupaswala. The hunger strike commenced under the auspices of the Chairman of the Siyanae Water Conservation Organisation, Pramitha Hettiarachchi.

However, Venerable Theripaha Siridhamma Thera, the monk who was at the centre of the Weliweriya crisis, claims that a solution to the problem has been reached following discussions with authorities. Newsfirst visited the area on Monday to inspect the situation during this Rathupaswala water crisis.

Our cameras captured footage of empty water tanks which had been brought there in a bid to search for a solution to the issue.
