The new office building of the Matara District Medical Superintendent was declared open on Sunday by the Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena.

This building has been constructed in Paramulla, Matara.

At the event, Minister of Health, Maithripala Sirisena shared the following views:

“When talking about the problem with narcotics in our country, we must realise that with the onset of a  commerical society and new technology, this is not a problem only for our country. It is a problem for the entire global community. When establishing a good and humane society the prime challenge is the problem with narcotics. Heroin, pills, alcohol, cigarettes and betel;  all of these lead to a severe social catastrophe.
That is why we have named 2014 the year of  establishing a society free of intoxicants.”

Deputy Minister of Postal Services, Sanath Jayasuriya had these to share in that event;  “In spite of the thirty year war and the major decline that we could have gone into following its conclusion, the President of our country and former Health Ministers worked tirelessly to bring the health sector forward.  The journey is not complete, we must continue forward.”

Speaking at an event held on Saturday, Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayake commented once again on his alleged involvement in securing the release of several inmates of the Bogambara Prison.

Meanwhile, Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayake also shared his views;  “All of the Chief Incumbents in the Nuwara Eliya District signed a letter asking the President to pardon these  persons. For the first time in history both chief prelates addressed a letter to the President asking that  these persons be pardoned. It was not only me.  I did steer it. That is true. These prisoners were in the right. They had to be pardoned and released. These murderers were from the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna. They have accepted this today.”
