The Maha Sangha staged a protest opposite the Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha on Friday against the sudden transfer of the Kaduwela Divisional Secretary.

Monks from the temples in the Kaduwela electorate took part in this protest.

The monks pointed out that the sudden transfer had resulted in the activities at the divisional secretariat coming to a standstill.

Chief Incumbent of Sri Salavanodyarama Vihara, Ven. Kumarigama Gunasiri Thero said; “The Monks in Kaduwela express their displeasure over this transfer. We wish to also call on officials not make arbitrary decisions to transfer government officials.”

Chief Incumbent of Ganewatte Raja Maha Vihara, Venerable Pallegama Sumana Thero stated; “If this transfer was the result of a political or any other form of revenge, we as the Maha Sangha of Kaduwela express our displeasure..”

Newsfirst contacted the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration & Home Affairs P.B. Abeykoon in this regard.

He said; “At present the Divisional Secretary of Homagama has been vested with the responsibility of overlooking the activities at the Kaduwela Secretariat. A new divisional secretary for Kaduwela will be appointed by Monday or Tuesday.”

Meanwhile, Mayor of Kaduwela G.H. Buddhadasa also commented on the transfer yet again on Friday.

“Mrs. Sooriyapperuma served as the Divisional Secretary of Kaduwela for over five years in an unbiased manner. Sixteen years ago, a venerable Thero passed away, and an event to remember the late Thero took place at the premises of the Nawagamuwa temple. Mrs. Sooriyapperuma was transferred with immediate effect because a certain politician was not invited. She was transferred because Wimal Weerawansa’s name was not included.”
