Indian envoy Devyani Khobragade’s father says that she has rejected a US offer of a plea bargain to resolve the diplomatic row that has strained ties between New Delhi and Washington, instead preferring to leave the country where her children and husband still live.

The Indian diplomat, whose arrest and strip-search in New York caused a major rift between India and the United States, was indicted for visa fraud , and the U.S. government immediately asked her to leave the country.

Khobragade has flown out of the United States.

Indian foreign ministry said she was being transferred to a post in New Delhi, where she was expected to arrive late evening.

While addressing a news conference in New Delhi Uttam Khobragade, diplomat’s father, expressed joy on the impending arrival of his daughter and thanked the Indian government for supporting them.

She is flying back to India to take up duties at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, but for now her children remain in the United States.
