A tense situation has erupted opposite the Prime Minister’s Office, during the protest march demanding that Prime Minister D.M Jayaratne steps down from the position of Minister of Buddha Sasana and Religious Affairs.

According to our reporter, the tense situation arose when the protestors attempted to enter the premises of the PM’s Office by force. Shalitha Perera, Propaganda Secretary of the Sinhala Ravaya Organisation, said that the march is being carried out to voice their protest against the incident where PM Jayarartne publicly disrespected the Maha Sangha.

They demand that the Prime Minister make a public apology to the Maha Sangha.
