CAA seizes Rs.30m worth of sprats unsuitable for consumption

The Consumer Affairs Authority has seized 47,000 kilogrammes of sprats unsuitable for consumption from Hendala, Wattala worth around Rs.30 million.

The Consumer Affiars Authority made the discovery during a raid that was conducted after information was received regarding the contents of three containers. The Gampaha District Head of the CAA Ranjith Weerawardena said that three persons have been arrested in connection to the discovery.

Meanwhile, the Customs on Wednesday opened a cargo container containing vehicles that was imported to the country by producing forged documents. According to the Customs, the cargo container contained disassembled parts of nine vehicles and the vehicles were imported in violation of the law which prohibits the importation of vehicles that are over two years old. One suspect has been arrested in connection to the incident.
