The Former Chairman of the Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha, whose budget was defeated recently arrived at the Pradeshiya Sabha on Thursday. However, at the time of his arrival the chambers were sealed shut.
The 2014 Budget of the Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha was defeated for the second time in the recent past. Former Chairman, A.D. Kumarasiri arrived at the Pradeshiya Sabha on Thursday morning, However, the official chamber of the Chairman was sealed.
Subsequently, the Former Chairman made inquiries from the Secretary of the Pradeshiya Sabha
The Police Media Spokesperson said that the Former Chairman has filed a complaint with the Homagama Police citing it is illegal to seal his office as he remains the chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha till the Elections Commission officials inform him that he has been replaced.
Deputy Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha Indika Koralage arrived at the Pradeshiya Sabha to assume duties as the acting chairman shortly after the Former Chairman left the premises.
He noted that he is obligated to function as the acting chairman until a new chairman is appointed to the vacant post, in accordance with the law.
However, the Deputy Chairman too could not enter the official chamber of the Chairman. He too made inquiries from the Secretary of the Pradeshiya Sabha.
Western Province Local Government Commissioner Chandrani Samarakoon said that as the Budget of the Homagama Pradehiya Sabha was defeated on two occassions, the post of Chairman will be void; adding that she ordered the Chambers of the Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha to be sealed. 239,643 persons reside in 81 Grama Seva Divisions in Homagama.
Homagama is bordered with the Kelani River in the north, the Kaluthara District to the south, the Hanwella and Padukka Divisional Secretasriat to the east and the Kaduwela, Maharagama and Kesbewa Divisional Secretariats to the west.
Homagama is also home to around 46 small and medium scale Industries.
The Chairman of the Medirigiriya Pradeshiya Sabha Ananda Sri Dharmasena failed to present the budget for the second round of voting on Thursday arrived at the Pradeshiya Sabha on Thursday morning.
Only one ruling party member allied to the chairman was present at the Pradeshiya Sabha. The second round of voting for the Medirigiriya was scheduled to take place on the 31st.
However, the Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha failed to appear at the Pradeshiya Sabha even after midnight.
The second round of voting for 2014 Budget of the Uhana Pradeshiya Sabha was scheduled to take place on Thursday. However, the Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha abruptly decided to postpone the proceedings of the Pradehiya Sabha until January 31.
The 2014 budgets of twelve local government institutions governed by the United People’s Freedom Alliance and three local government institutions governed by the Tamil National Alliance were defeated in the recent past.
