The Consumer Affairs Authority or the CAA says that over 2,000 raids were conducted in December to nab traders who have flouted consumer laws.
Regional Deputy Director of the CAA Asela Bandara said that legal action has been taken against a large group that flouted consumer regulations.
He said that these raids were being conducted to ensure that goods of the required standard is provided to the consumers during the festive season.
Special attention has been focused on the quality of fruit and vegetables available for consumers and a raid was conducted in Wellawatta on Saturday.
On Friday, the CAA seized nearly 75,000 kilogrammes of fruit ripened using chemicals following raids conducted at the Manning market and its immediate vicinity.
