Investigation launched into Wadurawa train fire

The Railways Department says that investigations have been launched into the fire that broke out in a train engine in Wadurawa in Veyangoda.

The Spokesperson said that an investigative board has been appointed in this regard. He further said that steps have been taken to bring the train engine, which caught fire, to Colombo from the Rambukkana Train Station.

The Train Control Room said that the cause of the fire will be determined subsequent to its arrival in Colombo.

Three passengers were killed in the train accident which occurred in Wadurawa in Veyangoda on Friday afternoon. A woman is among the victims that include a married couple and a youth.

The post mortem examination is due to be held on Saturday. Meanwhile,  railway way traffic has resumed as normal along the main line. The control room said that the trains are being operated according to schedule.
