Excavations have recommenced in close proximity to the Kovil on the A32 Road in Mannar where human skulls and other skeletal remains were discovered during an excavation.
Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana stated that the investigations into the discovery are being conducted by a group including two special police teams.
On December 20, excavations commenced to lay a water supply line on the A32 road in Mannar.
During this excavation process the contractors stumbled upon two human skulls. Thereafter, a further ten skulls were unearthed from the location.
Excavation which was suspended after the discovery, began again on Saturday under the supervision of the Mannar Magistrate.
Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that the Judicial Medical Officer had confirmed that the skeletal remains, are over fifteen years old.
The investigative team looking into the discovery includes geological experts from the University of Peradeniya .
