The Medical Research Institute has introduced early detection tests to identify and curb the spread of the Cryptococcus infection for patients who are HIV and immunity impaired.

The Director of MRI, Dr. Anil Samaranayake noted that the Cryptococus infection which is a fungal infection resulting in meningitis conditions usually aggravates the condition of patients suffering from the HIV infection resulting in death.

Speaking to Newsfirst, Dr. Anil Samaranayaka went onto say that the services will also be provided from the National Hospital in Colombo. He also noted that this test could be taken by not only patients affected by HIV but also those ailing from immuno deficiencies.
