MP Palitha Thevarapperuma who commenced a fast opposite the Baduraliya Hospital on Wednesday says that the Deputy Leader of the United National Party had made a phone call to him regarding this incident.

Palitha Thevarapperuma said, “Chairman of the Leadership Council of the UNP , Karu Jayasuriya called me over the phone. He asked me what was the problem. I told him that it is a hunger strike. Then he wished. I asked him , whether he was wishing for my death.  I then switched off the phone. Since this morning, Karu Jayasuriya has been saying, Palitha has received more publicity than he deserves. He wants me to stop. I condemn this statement. If this protest ends before I die, the first thing I would do is hand over my letter of resignation from the post of Chief UNP Organiser of the Mathugama Electorate.”
