Senior Economist Professor Sumanasiri Liyanage says that despite the government preparing to transform the country into five main hubs in the region, sufficient investments have not be made for this purpose.
He said that Sri Lanka’s geographic location is an advantage for the country to become a service hub in the region, however this advantage maybe ceased by other countries if proper policies are not formulated at the suitable time.
Professor Sumanasiri Liyanage said, “The country is developing as a service hub and it is important to be a service centre for the economic activity taking place in the region.
If Sri Lanka is to achieve this, it has to compete with countries such as Dubai and Singapore. We talk about various hubs and we have identified five hubs. However, we cannot achieve the investment level needed to develop these five hubs over the next five to ten years.”
