Sri Pada – season of pilgrimage begins

With the commencement of the season of  pilgrimage to Sri Pada many devotees made there way to the holy site of Sri Pada to pay homage.

A number of religious observances were carried out to mark the opening of the Sri Pada pilgrimage season since  Monday morning.

In order to commemorate this season, the casket containing the sacred relic and the statue of God Sumana Saman, was taken to Sri Pada on Sunday night.

This was held under the patronage of the Deputy Chancellor of the Sabaragamuwa University and Chief Incumbent of the Galpoththawala Rajamaha Viharaya Venerable Bengamuwe Dhammadhinna Thero.

The sacred relics and the statue of God Sumana Saman were displayed at at the Galpoththawala Rajamaha Viharaya in Palmadulla at 10.30 Sunday night.

Our correspondent said that the sacred items departed from Galpoththawala Rajamaha Viharaya on Monday morning along the Hatton route en route to Sri Pada.
