Amunugama on those who ‘receive salaries from public funds’

Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr. Sarath Amunugama states that the responsibility of state sector employees who receive their salaries from public funds, is to serve the public.

[quote]If we stop state sector employees receiving salaries from public funds, every person can get about 5,000 to 10,000.[/quote]

The minister further said,

[quote]I am not saying we should do that. So if we are going to take their money, we need to fulfill our service. We need to make those people wealthy – not make ourselves rich. whether it is politicians or officials, everyone is trying to get rich.[/quote]

The Deputy Minister made this statement while addressing a public meeting in Galagedara, Kandy.This meeting was held in the Galagedara area under the ‘Divi Neguma’ programme to provide relief to residents.
