Senior Japanese diplomat Yasushi Akashi called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Monday.
The Presidential Spokesperson and National Media Unit said that he had met with President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Monday morning.
The President and Akashi discussed a number of matters including the progress in the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission, the overall reconciliation process and general bilateral relations between Japan and Sri Lanka.
” I think everyone tends to judge situations from his or her own background, this is not fair, and this is not the objective certainly. I am sure that the government and Sri lanka would wish to move much more rapidly, but with Sri lanka’s limited resources, what it has done by itself is truly amazing,” a statement from the President’s media unit said, quoting Yasushi Akashi.
