Education Minister to reduce stress caused to children

Minister of Education, Bandula Gunawardene says that he aims to reduce the levels of stress caused to children through the Grade Five Scholarship Examination.

 He made this statement in Parliament on Friday.   Today marks the fifth day of the of the committee stage debate of the 2014 budget.

 The expenditure heads of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, Education Services, Technology and Research as well as the Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology are being taken up for debate.

 Responding to a question raised by TNA MP, Pon Selvarasa, Minister of Education, Bandula Gunawardene noted that it is his policy to reduce the stress caused due to the students due to the Grade Five Scholarship Examination.

 He added that the government aims to ensure that the scholarship examination is converted into one which would aid poor children.

 Meanwhile, members of the opposition also raised the need to establish a monitoring system for private and international schools. Responding on behalf of the government, Minister T.B. Ekanayake noted that the government will be taking the necessary steps in this regard.
