Speaking at a media briefing convened on Wednesday morning, UNP Parliamentarian Rosy Senanayake remarked that the 2014 Budget had imposed taxes on all consumer goods.

UNP Parliamentarian, Rosy Senanayake shared these views;

“When looking at this budget, and when speaking of taxes it is evident that this is a budget by gazette. Although the President told a very substantive story in Parliament before the media, in truth, when considering the technical notes, the contents of this put immense pressure on the people. The President said in his budget speech that the financial plan of the budget was detailed in the technical notes.”

She further added; “When looking at these technical notes and looking at how taxes were imposed on essential goods via gazette announcements on the same night, it is evident that we are in a very sad situation. Be it electricity or water or anything else, we are paying taxes on everything except the air we breathe in this country.”
