Speaking at a gathering in Rajagiriya, JVP politburo member Lal Kantha expressed his views on the budget.

He stated; “Since tax is not being charged from food for dogs and cats, this is a budget meant for dogs and cats. People have the freedom to feed their cats and dogs the same food that they consume. However, there are people who give their dogs special imported food. In these families it’s harder to raise a daughter than it is to raise a dog. But now it’s harder to raise a dog that it is to raise a daughter or son.”

“This is because special injections have to be given to them and they have to be taken to the vet. tax charges on  dry fish, coriander, Maldive fish and sugar were increased but food for cats and dogs that are imported are completely free of taxes,”
