The international community should respect the right of the Sri Lankan government and its people to choose their own path of promoting human rights and create a favourable external environment for Sri Lanka to pursue stability and economic development.
The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka made the above statement by issuing a communique on China’s position on human rights related issues in Sri Lanka.

According to the communique, the Chinese Embassy in Colombo notes that China believes that countries should resolve their differences on human rights through dialogue and exchange, based on the principles of equality and mutual respect.

The communique notes that China opposes any efforts that politicise or have double standards on human rights as well as pressurize other countries using human rights as a tool.

The communique further noted,
China supports the Sri Lankan government’s efforts to safeguard independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.” It also notes that Sri Lanka has made big strides in promoting human rights and national reconciliation.
The communique concludes by expressing confidence that the Sri Lankan government and its people have the wisdom and capacity to deal appropriately with their internal affairs.
