Health service workers in the North Central Province, commenced a token strike today.
Secretary of the Provincial Branch of the Joint Health Service Unions Council, Ajith P. Thilkarathna said that the reason behind the strike was the failure to pay overtime and other allowances since September.
Our Correspondent said that due to the strike, only emergency services in hospitals in the province are operational.Several patients were inconvenienced due to the strike. When News1st made inquiries, the Provincial Minister of Health, H.B. Semasinghe said that steps will be taken to pay out all allowances prior to January 10.
