A media briefing was held to create awareness on paying tribute to those individuals who were exiled from the country during the 1818 rebellion at a national war heroes commemoration event.

The function will be held on November 26.   Speaking at the media briefing Minister of Cultural Affairs, T.B. Ekanayake stated:
Since 1505 up to the end of 1815 colonial powers such as the Portuguese, the Dutch and British have plundered this country’s resources and ancient artefacts. As a signatory of the UNESCO treaties in this regard, we have initiated a programme whereby we are in touch with these countries on this matter. We are in trying to get back those priceless artefacts with the assistance of the Cultural Affairs Ministry and the Attorney General’s Department. Similarly, we are using diplomatic means as well for this purpose. We are preparing the relevant documents as well for this.
