The Consumer Affairs Authority states that raids are being conducted to find out if expired goods are sold out in the market. Chairman of the Authority, Rumy Marzook notes that such raids are currently conducted in the Colombo and Gampaha districts.

Chairman Rumy Marzook further noted,

“Under Clause 30 of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act,  it is is illegal to sell goods that are expired. Our officers have been engaging in raids and have been able to identify a number of shops that have been selling expired goods. What sellers do is that they cover the expiry date and sell the product. We request all consumers to take adequate measures when examining products prior to purchasing them.”

The Chairman of the authority also requested the public to notify the Authority if expired goods are sold to them.
