According to the Ministry of Fisheries a formal request has been made to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs to release a group of Sri Lankan fishermen in Indian custody.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Fisheries notes that the request has been made through the Sri Lankan High Commissioner in India.
According to Sri Lankan officials 107 Sri Lankan fishermen are currently in Indian custody, along with 20 fishing vessels.
The fishermen had been arrested over the past two months by the Indian Goast Guard.
