The 15 individuals among 21 arrested in connection with the Nintavur incident have been remanded until November 23.Meanwhile, six individuals, those who are under 18 years of age, have been released on bail. The 21 individuals arrested during a protest held in the Nintavur area in Samanthurai, blocking the Kalmunai – Akkaraipattu road were produced before court today.
According to the police, twenty one individuals who instigated the protest and behaved in an unruly manner were arrested. Following a clash which occurred with the police STF personnel on Monday, the protestors took to the streets and forced the road to be closed for a period of nearly thirty six hours.
The police then deployed a force of around 300 officers on Tuesday to clear the protestors. Police also used tear gas to disperse the protestors. Individuals who behaved in an unruly manner were taken into custody along with eight motorcycles and twenty bicycles.
